Michael Starkey

Owner

Michael grew up in Flomot, TX and moved to this area in 1977. Michael started his business in 1984. Back then most of the rural area homeowners burned their trash in barrels because dumpster service was too expensive. Mike started his business providing and empting the barrels of the ashes on a regular basis in the Rockwell Road area using a 1974 Ford LDT pulling a motorcycle trailer with a floor installed on it. Due to the dangers associated with burning trash, Mike saw a need for an affordable weekly trash service, so people would not have to burn their trash or pay too much for metal dumpsters. With the business quickly growing, it wasn’t long until he bought his first regular garbage truck and was able to start the weekly routes, switching to 96 gallon trash carts. The business has since grown and flourished, and now has expanded to cover most of the areas surrounding Amarillo and Canyon, including Bushland and Umbarger, using several smaller garbage trucks and several employees. Mike is married to Lori Starkey. He enjoys horses and traveling. He is a member of the Buffalo Radio Control Airplane Club and the Amarillo Inventors Association, with one patent under his belt and working on others.
